Sacred Heart is the debut album released by UK/US pop music duo Shakespear's Sister. Released in August 1989 on FFRR Records, the album peaked at no.9 in the UK and was certified Gold by the BPI in October 1989 for sales of over 100,000 copies.
Four singles were released from the album in the UK, the first of which was the double A-side "Heroine"/"Break My Heart" released in 1988. Success, however, did not come until the release of the next single "You're History", which reached number seven in the UK singles chart during the summer of 1989.

Shakespear's Sister was initially just Siobhan Fahey, and was her first musical venture after leaving the successful girl group Bananarama. The first Shakespear's Sister single, 1988's double A-side "Break My Heart"/"Heroine" featured Fahey by herself on the cover and in the accompanying music videos. For the next single, "You're History", released in July 1989, Fahey had begun working with vocalist/guitarist Marcella Detroit. Detroit shared vocals with Fahey on the song, and was featured prominently on the single cover and accompanying video. However, when the Sacred Heart album was released a month later, only Fahey was featured on the album cover (though Detroit was featured on the inner cover). Detroit would later be shown in the videos and on the single covers for "Run Silent" and "Dirty Mind".
The album was co-produced with Richard Feldman (producer of Milla Jovovich, Belinda Carlisle), who was a friend of Fahey's then-husband David A. Stewart. American producer Jimmy Iovine, who was working with Stewart at the time on the Eurythmics album We Too Are One, also co-produced the album's biggest single, "You're History".
The track "Sacred Heart" was included on the soundtrack of the 1990 film Nuns on the Run.
The original vinyl album release had only 11 tracks and did not include "Twist the Knife" or "You Made Me Come to This".
A video compilation was released in addition to the album, during 1989. It features promotional videos for four tracks from the album and some footage of Fahey in Russia.
